Obituary for Mr. Walter Roy Smith The man. The myth. The legend. Loved by many and intimidated by few. Walter Roy Smith, known to the world as Leroy, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 64 on Friday September 14th. He embraced life with his passions for tinkerin’, fishin’, huntin’ and tellin’ tall tales. He never met a problem he couldn’t fix or a friend he wouldn’t help. He worked the same job as a senior welder fabricator at Pinellas County for 25 years. He went on to retire as a part-time seafood delivery driver for Sammy’s Seafood and all around outdoors enthusiast. He loved animals and hated taxes. You could find him umpiring, coaching, or watching a ballgame. Leroy appreciated the simple things in life. He was struck by lightning 3 times. He swore he saw bigfoot in the Florida swamp. He braved the world without a smartphone. Leroy leaves behind a loving wife of 44 years Brenda Smith, four strong children Walter Roy Smith II, Waylon Ross Smith, Brittany Fuller, and Melissa Smith; as well as three grandsons, Dausten Smith, Wyatt Smith, and Weston Smith. A celebration of his life will be held this Saturday September 22nd at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 4:30 pm. Friends and loved ones are encouraged to attend.
