Sharon Wharton 2018

Sharon Evans Wharton passed away September 23, 2018 at Camden Clark Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born August 8, 1941, in Parkersburg, W.Va., the daughter of the late B. Barrett and Mary Louise Evans. She was a 1959 graduate of Parkersburg High School. Sharon attended West Virginia University, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She graduated from Salem College with the class of 1964, and was employed as a teacher in the Wood County School System at Fairplains and Franklin. Sharon served as a board member at the Parkersburg Art Center and S.W. Resources. She was also active in many other organizations including the American Association of University Women, PEO Chapter L Sisterhood, and Parent Teacher Associations. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Surviving are her sons Daniel Barrett Wharton (Tracy), and Jason Andrew Wharton (Heidi). She is also survived by her four grandchildren Daniel, Lily, Anna, and Jackson; niece Lisa Goldenberg Butcher (Allen), nephew Barry Goldenberg, and close family friend Janice Hissem. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Daniel Barry Wharton, her sister Donna Roberts, and brother-in-law Ronald Roberts. The family would like to thank Dr. Nik Shah and his staff for the outstanding care that they provided over the past several years. Visitation will be held at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 27, 2018 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Eleventh and Market Street with visitation one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkersburg Art Center or the Camden Clark Memorial Foundation for the benefit of the Infusion Center.
