Mr. Sammy Edward Floyd, Sr., age 85, died Wednesday, September 26, 2018 in the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville. Mr. Floyd was born in Bladen County to the late Earl Gillespie Floyd and Rossie Louise Buffkin Floyd. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, June Floyd Woronchuk. Sam proudly served his country by serving in the United States Marine Corp. His career included working for Duke Power Company in Charlotte and began working for the Beasley Media Group in 1976 and continued working until his death. Survivors include his wife, Helen Flowers Floyd, two sons, Sammy E. Floyd, Jr. of Fayetteville, and Gregory W. Floyd of Raleigh; a daughter, Helen E. Winter (Ray) of Raleigh; two brothers, Ronnie Floyd of Raeford and Billy Earl Floyd (Lib) of Wallace; two granddaughters, Koren N. Hillard (Sean) and Michelle L. Winter; and a great granddaughter, Madison Grace Hillard and dearly loved nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service will be held at Raeford Cemetery on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 1:00 PM with Reverend Brian Wingo officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers Sam’s desire to help his fellow man was apparent in requesting memorials to be made to The American Red Cross, PO Box 97089, Washington, DC 20090.
