Rose Buzzard Longmire 2018

Rose Blizzard Longmire, a lifetime resident of the Parkersburg area, died Monday the 24th of September at Wyngate Senior Living. Born in 1922, Rose was the younger of two children born to Roy and Florence Blizzard. The Blizzard family had many essential contributions of which Rose was quite proud. Her grandfather, the late Judge Reese Blizzard was elected to the sixth judicial circuit in 1896, was appointed US District Attorney for the State of West Virginia by President McKinley in 1901, and later reappointed by President Roosevelt. . Her father Roy, the son of the late Judge Blizzard was renowned for raising champion race horses – including a record holding trotter named “The Volo”. During her lifetime Rose was active in Coetrie club, was a member of First United Methodist Church served as president of the Worthington Women’s golf Association, Parkersburg Country club Golf Association, and Women’s Bowling League at Emerson Lanes. She enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and writing poetry. She has written many wonderful poems for various occasions and issues that were important to her. The poem she was most proud of writing was titled “MY SON THE CLOWN”. Rose was preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Edwin Longmire, and her youngest son “The Clown” Dale Alan Longmire. She is survived by her son Tom Longmire of Parkersburg, West Virginia; daughter Linda (Mike) of Lenoir City, Tennessee; grandson Tom (Mary) and great granddaughters Sydney and Shea Mason of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; granddaughter Rebecca Stapleton (Marcus) of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; Great Granddaughter Shelby Russell and Great-Great Granddaughter Carolina Rose Olmsted of Knoxville, Tennessee. SPECIAL THANKS to: The staff at Wyngate Senior Living, all the staff who cared for her from HOUSE CALLS, and to Sharon Lemley, who has been with her over the years as a caregiver but also a dear friend to Rose and to the Longmire family. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to HOUSE CALLS HOSPICE 417 Grand Park Dr. Parkersburg, WV 26105. A CELEBRATION of her life will be arranged at the convenience of the family. Leavitt Funeral Home of Parkersburg is assisting the family.
