Robert (Bob) L. Singletary Sr., SFC, US Army SFC (Retired) Robert L. Singletary, 72, passed away on August 26, 2018, with his family by his side in Tacoma, WA. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 12th at Fir Lane Funeral Home & Memorial Park at 1pm in Spanaway, WA. Robert attended Allen University in Columbia,… Read More » SC, to pursue a degree in teaching. A year shy of graduating, Robert was drafted into the Army near the close of the Vietnam War. Desiring to serve his country, Robert enlisted in the Army, rejecting deferment. After his first tour of duty, Robert was relocated to Ft. Lewis in Tacoma, WA where he met his soulmate, Joy and was happily married for over 44 years. After two further tours in Germany & North Carolina, The Singletary family relocated back to Tacoma, WA upon Robert’s military retirement where he pursued a second career in civil service until ultimately retiring in 2005. Robert was a consummate leader, father figure, example to many in conduct and attitude and passionate advocate for those he loved. He loved spending time with his wife, three children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His interests included reading, music and concerts, gardening, spending time with his family and relishing retirement. Mr. Singletary is survived by his wife Joy E. Singletary; two daughters, Veronica Joseph and Sabrina & husband, Clinton Lopez; son, Robert (BJ) & wife, Meri Ruth Singletary Jr.; sisters, Sylvia S. & husband, Fletcher Pierce & Carolyn Singletary; brother, William D. & wife, Ella Singletary of McCormick, South Carolina; grandchildren, Sierra, Samuel, Mya, Sara and Jeshua; great grandchildren, Ahmari & Jailen and many extended family members.
