Obituary of Richard Auman, Jr. Richard L. Auman, Jr., 75, of Latrobe, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018. He was born May 15, 1943 a son of the late Rev. Richard L. Auman and Fern (Mengle) Auman. Richard was a graduate of Findlay University where he was a member of TKE Fraternity. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education majoring in Voice and Trombone. He then served in the Vietnam War with the US Army assigned to the 173rd Army Band, Ft. Dix, NJ, and did a tour in South Vietnam with the Americal Division Band (23rd Infantry Division) as band leader, drum major, and lead trombonist. Upon returning from Vietnam he became an elementary music teacher at Greater Latrobe School District, later becoming the Band Director. He also served as Band Director at Derry Area School District. His life in music continued as a member of several instrumental groups including: the Sine Nomine Brass Quartet, the Kiski Valley Community Band, the Westmoreland County Community College Jazz Band, Old Bones Quintet, and the St. Vincent College Bear Bone Quintet. He also served as Adjunct Professor of Trombone at St. Vincent College and as Brass Instructor of the Hempfield High School Marching Band. Richard was also known for his passion for the Revolutionary War Era. He was known for playing the Judge at Court Days at Historic Hannastown and was a costumed Revolutionary War participant in many area parades with the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution. He was a member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lizza Post 3414 and a member of the Thomas B. Anderson American Legion Post 515. He was a member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church where he was a Deacon. Other favorite pastimes included model trains, wood working, and Nascar In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister Elaine Auman and a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Miller. He is survived by his loving wife of over 41 years, Helen M. (Seefelt) Auman, two sons, Richard L. Auman III and his wife Julie of Latrobe and Nathan D. Auman and his wife Melanie of Jonesborough, TN, four grandchildren: Joshua, Lia, Nicholas, and Noah Auman, his brother, David J. Auman and his wife Nancy of Latrobe, a brother-in-law, Duane Miller (Mary Ellen), two nephews, David J. Auman Jr. (Suzanne) and Shane Miller (Marilyn) and two great nieces, Esther and Ruth Auman. Friends will be received Monday, October 1st from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM in the Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home, Inc., 1500 Ligonier Street, Latrobe. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday in the Latrobe Presbyterian Church, 428 Main St., Latrobe with his pastor, the Rev. Clark R. Kerr officiating. Everyone please go directly to the church. Interment with full military honors will follow in Unity Cemetery.
