Obituary for Rev. Thomas Schmied OFM., Cap. Thomas Schmied, Capuchin friar and priest, died on September 10, 2018 at the age of 75. Tom was born in Columbus, Wisconsin in 1943, the son of Francis and Lorraine Schmied. He was invested with the Capuchin habit in 1961, perpetually professed in 1967, and ordained a priest in 1969. Tom ministered most of his religious life as an itinerant preacher in Michigan and Wisconsin, and a short time in Winnipeg, Canada. From 2010-2018, Tom was pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Saginaw. He is survived by his siblings, Sandra Wedel of Great Falls, Montana; Daniel Wedel of Palatine, Illinois; along with his many Capuchin brothers with whom he lived, prayed and ministered for over 57 years. Visitation will be on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish in Appleton, Wisconsin, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at St. Joseph Parish in Appleton, Wisconsin with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin at 3:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish-St. Anthony of Padua Church, 3680 S.
