OBITUARY Peter A. Soscia May 9, 1928 – September 28, 2018 Peter A. Soscia, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 28, 2018. He was the beloved husband of 64 years of Marie A. (Ciaccio) Soscia; father of Diane P. Brito and Dorene L. Soscia; and grandfather of Jonathan A. Brito and Kimberly C. Brito, DVM. He was the son of the late Alphonse and Beatrice (Cardillo) Soscia and leaves behind several sisters and one brother. Peter had worked as a Foreman/Mechanic for the US Army maintaining military trucks and missiles. Peter proudly served as Sgt. 1st Class, 89th Medium Tank Battalion, during the Korean War until sustaining injuries awarding him the Purple Heart. Peter was actively and enthusiastically involved in the creation of the Korean War Memorial Project in Memorial Park in Downtown Providence. The bricks paving the walkway to the monument are inscribed with the names of Peter and many of his fellow veterans who served in the war. Peter took pride in remembering and giving dignity to his fellow soldiers. Visitation and funeral services will be held Tuesday, 9-10:30 a.m. in the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
