Obituary for Patrick Cole Miller Patrick Cole Miller, 24, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and formerly of Columbus, Georgia died on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in St. James Parish, Louisiana. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 14, 2018 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Ga. Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Patrick was born on April 19, 1994 in Columbus, Georgia to Melinda Cole Miller and Charles Wesley Miller. He graduated from Brookstone High School in 2012. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Kennesaw State (formerly Southern Polytechnic Institute) with honors in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Game Design and Development. In April 2018, Patrick began working as an application development specialist for IBM in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was just beginning his career when tragedy struck. He was enjoying his new life in Baton Rouge and was looking forward to a long and productive career. Patrick loved computers and had just begun the process of building his own desktop computer. In 2015, Patrick was selected by Taco Bell to star in a national television commercial which began airing in 2016. Patrick enjoyed the experience, and all of his family and friends were proud of how he handled it. Patrick loved video games. He had almost every game system available and was considered an expert by those who knew him. His dream was to one day be a video game designer and ultimately have his own company. He loved Mexican food and pizza. On his only trip back to Columbus since moving to Baton Rouge just a week before his death he was able to visit his favorite restaurants and spend precious time with his family and friends. He and his father attended the Florida State Seminoles game on September 3, 2018 in Tallahassee, Florida. Patrick was a great fan of the Florida State Seminoles. He and his father, a longtime FSU fan, shared this passion for seven years and rarely missed a game or bowl game during that time. Patrick, his brother Clay and his father were all in attendance on January 6, 2014 in Pasadena, California when the Seminoles defeated the Auburn Tigers for the final BCS championship. Patrick counted this experience as one of his most treasured memories. Patrick also collected sports memorabilia and was proud of his “Seminole Wall”. Patrick was also a big fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and attended several of their games. He was a real student of the game of football and loved to analyze offenses, defenses and game play. He had a knack for understanding what was going on in the game and what should be going on. His knowledge of the game was encyclopedic, and he could tell you about any given player at any given time. Patrick and his father loved to throw the football back and forth and spent many happy hours doing so. Ever the analyst, Patrick would have his father help him run pass routes and patterns so he could understand and enjoy the game even more. He was an avid fan of basketball as well and enjoyed attending NBA games when the chance arose. His knowledge of basketball was as good as his knowledge of football. He and his father shared this passion for sports and this was the basis of many happy memories for both of them. He taught himself to solve the Rubik’s Cube at a young age and competed in speed and precision tournaments for several years. He achieved an 8 second solve in competition and had an extensive collection of cubes as he called them. He was also able to solve the Rubik’s Cube while blindfolded. His friends and family marveled at his ability to do this so effortlessly. It was just one more challenge that he decided to solve and did. Patrick and his brother Clay went to many Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments in their younger years. They enjoyed many, many hours spent playing video games together. They were both into computers and traded knowledge and tips frequently. They loved going to dinner together, particularly when Mexican food was on the menu. In his younger years Patrick made sure to annoy Clay whenever he got the chance just to fulfill the role of the younger brother. His charm and infectious laugh allowed him to get away with this – usually. Once grown they loved being with each other and shared many happy times. Clay has lost not only a brother but one of his closest friends. He was also a gifted photographer. He had the “eye” that true photographers had. He was artistic and inherited his artistic and photography talents from his mother Melinda, who has been a talented artist and photographer her entire life. Patrick was one of the kindest, most caring people that God ever put on the earth. He just loved people and never paid attention to the color of a person’s skin or any other thing that might make them different to others. He always cared and did for others with no desire for recognition or reward. Testimonials to Patrick’s unselfish nature and caring acts have flooded in to the family since his untimely death. He was an absolute joy to his family and friends, and his parents could not have been prouder of the fine young man he became. Patrick was a beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. He will leave a void that will never be filled. He accomplished much beyond his years and always lived life to its fullest. He had an adventurous spirit and lived each day as if it were a gift. He was fearless when it came to tackling new challenges and was an example for others as to how to live life. He is survived by his parents and his loving older brother Clay Wesley Miller of Columbus, Georgia. He is also survived by a large number of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William M. and Rebecca F. Cole and his paternal grandparents, Wesley Leo and Patricia K. Miller. He was also preceded in death by his aunt, Rebecca Lynn Barron, his aunt, Patricia Shellman and a first cousin, Christopher Day. The family requests memorials to a favorite charity in honor of Patrick. The family also requests prayers for strength to cope with the unfathomable loss of their wonderful Patrick.
