Obituary for Norman Boardman Jr. Norman Douglas Boardman, Jr., 84, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2016, at his home in Sarasota, FL. He was born on October 1, 1932, in West Hartford, CT., to Norman Douglas Boardman and Elizabeth Collins Boardman. He grew up in East Haddam, Connecticut, graduated from Nathan Hale-Ray School in Moodus, Connecticut and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. While at Penn he was a member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity, played soccer, rowed lightweight crew, and was a member of the University of Pennsylvania Glee Club. Upon graduation from Penn’s Wharton School, he enlisted in the Army. Subsequently, after his tour he went to work for The Hartford. After a number of positions in the Home Office and in the Field, he returned to Hartford where he spend his later years deeply involved in Field Operations. As a young man he was a major participant in Masonic activities, was a Past Master of Columbia Lodge No. 26 (now Granite No. 118), Past Chapter High Priest, Past District Deputy of the Grand Lodge of Connecticut, Seventh District. He was a member of Sphinx Shrine. An avid outdoorsman, he belonged to the Kingdom Game Club and the Limestone Trout Club. His interest in fly fishing took him (and many times his wife and son) on numerous adventures throughout the United States, Canada, Alaska, and locations abroad including Central and South America, Europe, Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand. Tennis was an important part of his life. He belonged to the Hop Brook Tennis Club, Simsbury, CT., and The Serendipity Racquet Club and The Tournament Players Club, both of Sarasota, FL. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Francie (Masters) Boardman; a son, Norman Douglas Boardman, III, and his wife Cherise Lynn Boardman; two grandchildren, Norman Douglas Boardman, IV, and Ashley Marie Boardman; and two step-grandchildren, Michael Anthony Mathews Jr., and Tyler Colby Mathews, all of Doswell, VA. Services will be on Saturday, May 20th. Calling hours will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury from 12 noon to 2 PM, followed by a graveside service in Curtis Cemetery in West Simsbury.
