Masaye Tanimura passed away peacefully at home on September 3, 2018 surrounded by family members. She was 96 years old, born and raised in Watsonville, California, the daughter of Jisaburo (father) and Yuki (mother) Yamauchi. She, along with her siblings, helped their parents who operated a tofu shop, a family-run business, and later farmed strawberries. She attended and graduated from Watsonville High School. Masaye was a dedicated wife to husband George, who passed away in 2016. They met in the internment camp in Poston, Arizona, and married on September 21, 1944. They were together for 70 years. She was preceded in death by brothers, John (Pat) and Shige (Rose), and sister, Dorothy (Ben). She and George raised two children, Leslie (Ken) Morishita and son, Glenn (Sheila), and are survived also by four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the kind and dedicated caregivers for the wonderful care they provided as well as the very compassionate staff at Hospice of the Central Coast. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service, which will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at the Buddhist Temple of Salinas, 14 California Street, Salinas, CA. 93901. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Masaye’s memory to either the Buddhist Temple of Salinas, Hospice of the Central Coast or the Salinas Public Library.
