Obituary for Joaquin Batista Luna Joaquin Victorino Batista Luna (known affectionately as Quirino) entered into eternal rest on September 20, 2018 in Kissimmee, Florida after complications from a severe stroke. He was 80 years old. Born in the Dominican Republic in 1938, he was the son of the late Candido and Antonia Batista. Shortly after arriving in the United States, he met his wife Maria A. Diaz and were married in Queens, NY, in 1962. They shared 40 years of marriage together. Joaquin and Maria raised six children in the New York City boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn before moving to the Hudson Valley area of upstate New York in 1979 where they were blessed with their last child. There he spent most of his career working at Johnson Ford Automotive in their sales department. In 2004, after losing his wife a year earlier to lymphoma, he fulfilled their dreams and retired to Kissimmee, Florida. He created a new life for himself and became a devoted parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, spending most of his time serving his parish and the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving father to Joaquin Batista Jr., his wife Ky Lynne; Anthony Batista, his wife Diane; Rodney Batista, his wife Joanne; Michael Batista; Victor Batista, his wife Gloria; Judy Bender, her husband Anthony; Elisabet Leone, her husband Mark. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; Amanda, Samantha, Daniel, Victoria, Jonathan, Alexandra, Mariana, Gabriel, Abigail, Philip, Matthew, Noah and Mia. Visitation hours will be from 2pm – 6pm on Sunday, September 23rd at the Funeraria Porta Coeli in Kissimmee, Florida. A mass will be held at 10am on Monday, September 24th at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Kissimmee, Florida. Joaquin will then be transported back to New York for final visitation hours from 11am – 2pm on Saturday, September 29th at Lasher Funeral Home, Woodstock, NY. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Ashokan Rural Cemetery in Shokan, NY immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be sent to St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 2750 E Osceola Pkwy, Kissimmee, FL 34743 for their Perpetual Adoration construction fund.
