James Dwayne Cottier 1963 2018

Obituary for James Cottier James Dwayne Cottier, son of Cecelia Winona Cottier and the late Joseph Cottier, Sr., was born on August 24, 1963 in Martin, SD. He attended Martin Grade School and was a graduate of Bennett County High School. James had two adopted sons, Jimmy Joe Cottier and Tony Three Stars. Over the years James had taken in several foreign exchange students, Alexander Brennecke, Oscar Ofarrill, Luis Ofarrill, Abraham Favela, and Felix. James worked at Martin Grade School for several years as a home coordinator where he became very close with many families in the community. He also served as Junior High Basketball Coach for the Bennett County School, where he professed his love in working with the local youth and young family members. James primarily wanted to coach his beloved nephews. James also loved family events, he rarely missed a birthday party, graduation, basketball games, or football games his nieces and nephews were participating in; he also loved to take photographs, it was very rare to see James without his camera. James was a diehard Denver Broncos football fan, where he took every opportunity to call other family members who were not part of the Bronco Nation and rub the win in their face. James was an avid Duke University college basketball fan; it was a rare occasion where he wasn’t sporting a Duke shirt or sweater. James’ life will be missed by all of his family. James’ beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his family and friends, especially his mother, Winona Cottier of Martin, SD; special friend, Mark Coyle of Aberdeen, SD; siblings, Barb Cottier, Bonnie (Craig Dillon) Cottier; Everett Cottier, Mary Cottier, Joe Cottier, and Johnny Cottier all of Martin, SD; Kelly Cottier, Shavonne Cottier, Mariah Cottier, and Gina Cottier all of Rapid City, SD; and Jimmy Lee Little Bull of Allen, SD; hunka sister, Misty Brave of Martin, SD; Hunka Brother, Percy Cottier of Martin, SD; aunts, Darla (Jim) Bettelyoun, Mary Fern Bettelyoun, and Pearl Claussen all of Martin, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Cottier, Sr.; sister, Sharon Cottier; brothers, Lance Cottier and three brothers in infancy; and grandparents, Everett & Emma Bettelyoun and Gilbert & Mabel Cottier. Wake Services: Two night wake services with the first night starting at 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the LaCreek CAP Office in Martin, SD and the second night starting at 5:00 PM, Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Martin Activity Center in Martin, SD.
