Obituary for Jacqueline Nicol (Roberge) Westerly – Jacqueline S. (Roberge) Nicol It is with great sadness that the family of Jacqueline Nicol announces her passing on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the age of 90. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jean-Paul (Beth) Nicol of Auburn, AL, Marc (Diane) Nicol of Westerly, and Charles (Ellie) Nicol of Woodbridge, CT; her sister Gisele Roy of Vernon, CT; in laws, Charles (Ann) Nicol of Manchester-by-the Sea, MA, Louise Griffin of Portland, ME, Judy Thompson of Fort Myers, FL, and Kay Roberge of Biddeford, ME; her 7 grandchildren, David (Michelle), Marie (Kevin), Daniel (Shawn), Christine (Shawn), Michael, Thomas & Robert; 4 step-grandchildren, Jeremy (Kristin), Jessica (Eric), Julie & Rachel; and 7 great-grandchildren, Lily, Ella, Genevieve, Henry, Avery, Luke & Benjamin. She will also be fondly remembered by her many relatives and friends in Maine, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Jackie was predeceased by her husband Arthur Norman Nicol; daughters, Marie, Jocelyn & Michelle; her sisters, Charlotte Casavant & Rachel Sheehan; and brothers, Jean-Paul Roberge & Joseph “Nico” Roberge, Jr. Born and raised in Biddeford, Maine, daughter of the late J. Arthur and Antoinette Roberge, Jackie graduated from St. Joseph High School and later married Norman in 1951. The family relocated to Westerly, RI in 1960 where Jackie was a full-time mother of six. She was a communicant and former choir member of St. Clare Church, a former member of the Westerly Hospital Auxiliary and a life-time member of the Westerly Yacht Club where she and Norman spent many years having fun. An active Westerly Yacht Club member, Jackie loved playing cards and chaired the Pitch League for over twenty years and was a long time member of the Women’s Shuffleboard League. She played cribbage as often as she had a willing partner, always keeping a running total on paper of which of you was ahead in winning games! An avid and enthusiastic Red Sox and New England Patriot fan, she loved watching games on TV, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 6 from 4-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, August 7 at 10am at St. Clare Church, 62 Crandall Ave., Westerly. Burial in Biddeford, Maine will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Jacqueline’s memory.
