Obituary of Gladys Ryan Gladys M. Ryan (nee Murray), 98, a resident of Franklin Park, NJ, passed away surrounded by her loving family on September 14, 2018. Born on December 10, 1919 and raised on a cobblestoned Jane Street in lower Manhattan, Gladys was a woman of timeless grace and charm, devoted always and forever to her children and family. Gladys married the love of her life, Emmett Ryan, in August of 1942, travelled with him by train to California as he shipped out to the war in the Pacific, and raised a young family in Astoria, NY upon Emmett’s return. While a young wife and mother, Gladys lost her beloved Emmett as well as her cherished daughter, Carolyn, and son, Dennis, to illness. In the face of tragedy, Gladys moved to West New York, NJ in the early 1960s with her three young children, where she raised them in a home of love and devotion. Gladys served for a period of time as the school secretary of St. Mary’s School. Gladys is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Kaelin and Tricia Sweeney, her son, Robert Emmett, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, 111 Claremont Road, Bernardsville, NJ on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 10:00 am. A private burial will take place at The Long Island National Veterans Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.
