George E Ohlin January 24 1936 September 16 2018 (age 82)

George E. Ohlin, 82, of Warren Ohio, passed away peacefully at home after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s on September 16, 2018. The son of Joseph S. and Mary Elizabeth Emery Ohlin, George was born on January 24, 1936 in North Beaver Township, Lawrence County, PA. He graduated from Mount Jackson High School in 1953, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Tri-State University (Trine) in Angola, IN in 1956. Upon graduation, George joined Truscon Steel (later Republic Steel), in Youngstown where he worked for 20 years as a structural engineer and sales manager. From 1958-1964, he served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army Reserve stationed in Fort Knox, KY. In 1976, he joined Amthor Steel (Erie, PA), where he was regional manager (Youngstown, OH) until his retirement in 2005. George was an active member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish (St. James site), where he sang in the choir, encouraged his children to participate, and was head usher for many years. On May 2, 1959, George married Margaret Mary (Peggy) Kelly, of Warren, who passed away following a battle with cancer in 2003. On October 2, 2006, George married Nancy Beatty, of Warren. Together, they shared a happy family that includes surviving children and step-children: Daniel P. (Alice) Ohlin of Akron; Judithe (Michael) McSween of Charleston, SC; Charles Ohlin of Warren; Edward (Mary Jo) Ohlin of Champion, Martin (Hillary Kahn) Ohlin of Forest Hills, NY; Katherine (Vincent Cetrone) Ohlin of Fort Wayne, IN; Patrick (Jessica) Ohlin of Saint Davids, PA; Drew (Katie) Beatty of Sidney, ME; Amanda (Bethany Joseph) Beatty of Warren; and George Beatty-Marsh of Warren. George is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Ratliff, of Salem, VA; his mother-in-law, Joyce Halliday of Warren; 18 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and close colleagues and friends. He was preceded in death by Peggy, his parents, 3 brothers, and beloved son, Thomas Andrew Ohlin who passed away in 2017. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Hospice of the Valley or the St. James Restoration Fund. The family also wishes to thank his caregiver, Diane Bennett, and the wonderful people of Hospice of the Valley. All who knew him are welcome to join the family at McFarland-Barbee Family Funeral Home from 5PM -8PM Wednesday, September 19th, and one hour before services on Thursday, September 20th. Burial mass will be at 11AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish-St James Catholic Church on Thursday, September 20th. Burial will follow at All Souls Cemetery, Cortland.
