Obituary for Evelyn Whitson (Johnson) Bailey Evelyn Bailey, age 93, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018, at her daughter’s residence. Mrs. Bailey was a native of Yancey County and a daughter of the late Noah and Texanna Bennett Johnson. She was a member of Canah Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Evelyn loved flowers and enjoyed sewing with her hands. Mrs. Bailey worked for the former Industrial Garments as a shirt inspector. In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Whitson, Jr. and second husband, Willard A. Bailey, son Larry D. Whitson, brothers, Melvin Johnson, Roscoe Johnson, Edmond Johnson, Haul Johnson, and Hunley Johnson, and sisters, Edith Bryant Hughes, Irene Pate and Bell Tipton. Evelyn Bailey leaves behind to cherish her memory: Son: Garry Whitson and wife, Melissa; Daughter: Sandie Hughes; Daughter-in-law: Sharon Whitson; Grandchildren: Dough Whitson and wife, Tracy, Adam Whitson and wife, Susan, Mark Whitson and wife, Sandy, Mendy Henry, Josh Hughes, Brittany Thomas and husband, Thomas; 5 Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Evelyn Bailey in a funeral service to be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Mark Simmons will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 and will continue until service time in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. A committal service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Those attending will meet at Valley Funeral Home. Serving as active pallbearers will be Brittany Thomas, Josh Hughes, Mark Whitson, Doug Whitson, Adam Whitson, and Steven Thomas.
