Obituary for Elsie Hicks Gibson Services for Elsie Hicks Gibson, 92, of Thomasville, are at 11:00AM on Monday, September 24, 2018 at First Baptist Church Chapel where she was a member. The Rev. Andy Daughtry will officiate and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Gibson passed away September 19, 2018 at home. Born August 10, 1926 in Coolidge, GA she was the daughter of the late Roy Braxton Hicks and the late Selma Harper Hicks. She was married to Elisha Wilburn Gibson, who preceded her. Mrs. Gibson was a well known and much loved teacher in Thomas County for many years. She earned Teacher of the Year at Magnolia Middle School in 1980-81. She ended her career teaching 8th grade U.S. History, where she was famous for her live reenactments of the Boston Massacre. In 1971 she was invited to participate in an 8-week Valdosta State College funded trip to India, studying the Indian culture. Other survivors include her daughter, Lou Ellen Gibson with her partner Elizabeth Mauldin, son Andy Gibson, son and daughter-in-law Braxton and Sonya Gibson, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren and sister-in-law Sarah Jackson of Colquitt Co., GA. She was preceded in death by her grandchild, Jason Gibson. The family will receive friends after the service at their home. Visitors may sign the online guest registry at www.allenfh.com.
