Obituary for Dorothy R. (Silva) Duarte Dorothy R.(Silva) Duarte, 94, of New Bedford, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the Sacred Heart Home, in New Bedford. She was the wife of the late Frank J. Duarte. Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Thuribio and Gertrude (Rose) Silva, she was a lifelong resident of the city and communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Dorothy had worked at the Cornell Dubilier and later at the Venetian Blinds division of Rodney Metals. She enjoyed word puzzles, BINGO, playing cards and going to the casinos. She also enjoyed her company for tea or coffee and was known as “Gramma” by many. She is survived by two daughters, Francine Duarte and Patricia Duarte; two grandchildren, Nacean Purnell and Dennicia Purnell; a great grandson, Avant Purnell; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was the sister of the late Percy, Salvatore, Arthur and Thuribio Silva, Daminga Dade, Juliana Britto, Priscilla and Mary Watkins and Eva Lopes. Calling hours are Thursday, from 4-7pm, in the Donaghy-Hathaway Funeral Home. Cremation will follow and interment will be private.
