OBITUARY Donald “Herb” Scalf February 7, 1926 – August 31, 2018 Donald “Herb” Scalf was born in Hastings, NE on February 7, 1926 and passed away in Lincoln on August 31, 2018. Herb served in the U.S. Navy and saw action in the Pacific during WWII. His military service continued after the war with a 24 year career in the U.S. Army. Herb completed tours in both Korea and Vietnam and was awarded the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Army Medal of Merit and the Bronze Star to name but a few of many. Herb achieved the rank of 1st Sergeant and retired as such from the army in 1968. Post military, Herb worked in the construction industry and was an iron worker in Omaha. Herb enjoyed stock car racing and was a driver at such events across Nebraska and Kansas. He was also an avid golfer and in later years liked to spend winters in Arizona accompanied by wife Marcellia. Herb was preceded in death by wife, Marcellia and son-in-law, Michael Thimijan. Survived by daughters, Sherry Thimijan, Terry Kenne (Mark), Rose Mary Srb (Doug) and Susan Beckman (Brad); 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Memorials suggested to Wounded Warriors. VISITATION Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 5-8pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street. A private family service and interment will be held at a later date.
