BROWN HARRIS Born May 16, 1928 in Dyersburg, Tennesse, Brown Harris of Garden City, Michigan – the same address where he and his beloved wife of 70 years, Delorise, lived for six decades, and by whom he was preceded in death just five months earlier – was gently escorted from this life to a lovelier and eternal address by his Heavenly Father September 18, 2018. He is survived by sons Bruce (and wife Lisa), Robert, and Dwayne (and wife Dawn). He also leaves behind grandchildren Bobby, Cody, Bethany, Jordyn and Kaitlyn, great grandchildren Justin and Gabrielle, along with many nephews and nieces. Brown Harris worked to live and lived to work. Whether on the job for the profit of his employer, at home for the comfort of his family, or in the church of his Lord for the everlasting benefit of all who would answer the call of the gospel, the name of Brown Harris was synonymous with hard work. Brown Harris had no problem harmonizing his salvation by the grace of God with the word’s of Christ’s apostle to “Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12). Dad served as a Deacon in the church of Christ in Garden City for many years, after which he retired from Ford Motor Company as a skilled trade worker with an eighth grade education. Equal to his exemplary work ethic was his generosity, not only with his money but also his time. Many were blessed from his visits with them at home and in the hospital, especially after his retirement. Dad’s faithful – and might I say punctual – church attendance gave life to the expression, “every time the doors were open”. Brown Harris will lie in state at Harris Funeral Home in Garden City, Michigan where friends may visit with the family Friday, September 21 from 3pm – 9pm. Funeral Services will be held in his honor at the Garden City Church of Christ, 1657 Middlebelt Road Saturday, September 22 at 10am, with a brief visitation where he will be in state before the funeral beginning at 9am.
