Obituary for Barbara J. Murphy Barbara J. Murphy, 88, of Rochester Twp., passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born October 5, 1929, in Rochester, she was the daughter of the late John R. Sr. and Mary L. Palakovich McCann. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, William Sr. and Essie Keller Murphy. Barbara was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, William A. Murphy Jr., to whom she had been married for 65 years. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and William McCann, and two sisters, Evelyn Groves and Betty Pace. She was a former manager of the self-service department of the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. She was a retired employee, serving as secretary and accountant, with St. Cecilia and the former St. Pudentiana Roman Catholic Churches in Rochester and Rochester Twp. She was a member of St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church, where she was a member and treasurer for 12 years of the Christian Mothers, serving also as treasurer and secretary of the parish council. She was a former member of the Third Order of St. Francis, and also served on the Board of Trustees for 12 years. She was a retired Eucharistic minister and also delivered the Eucharist to the sick of the parish. She was a member and secretary-treasurer and member of the Board of Trustees for many years with the Croatian Fraternal Union of America, Rochester Lodge 85. Surviving are her lovely daughter, Kathleen, and devoted son, William A. Murphy III, and also her very best friends, Charlotte and Bud Caplinger. Barb is also survived by four sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. Per her request, there will be no visitation. A private Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, September 14, 2018, at 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church, Rochester Twp. Interment will follow in St. Cecilia Cemetery. Arrangements by WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME INC., 349 Adams St., Rochester. The family wishes memorial contributions be made, in her name, to St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church, 628 Virginia Ave., Rochester, PA 15074.
