OBITUARY Ana G. Baptista September 16, 1922 – September 25, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Ana G. (Cruz) Baptista, 96, of New Bedford passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018 in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Joao Batista. Born in Peirezes, Portugal, a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Goncalves) Cruz she came to the area in 1970 and lived most of her life in New Bedford. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Parish. Ana was employed as a stitcher at Cliftex Manufacturing and Calvin Manufacturing for 15 years, retiring in 1984. Ana loved her family dearly, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren; she loved family gatherings and was the “Glue that held the family together.” Her children were her world. She loved cooking, baking and crocheting and enjoyed watching soccer. Ana was an extremely religious woman. In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her children, John C. Baptista and his wife Amy of Mattapoisett, Manuel Batista of New Bedford, Maria Julia Monteiro and her husband Antonio of New Bedford, Joaquim Cruz and his wife Lucia of Portugal, Joe Batista and his wife Melida of Ludlow, and Michael Baptista of New Bedford; eight grandchildren, Joey, Anna Lucia, Christopher, Elizabeth, Suzette, Matthew, Kaitlyn and Kristen; two great grandchildren, Mark and Joao; a sister, Julia and a brother, Antonio. She was the sister of the late Arminda, Bento, Joaquina, Joaquim and Manuel. Her funeral will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 9:00AM from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00PM. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
