Obituary for Alonzo “Jack” Waters Mr. Alonzo Jackson “Jack” Waters, age, 89 passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 14, 2018 in Concord, NC. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Wilkinson Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11am Thursday, September 20 at Carolina Memorial Park with Pastor Sammy Pierce officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the US Air Force. Jack was born on March 29, 1929 in Canton, NC to the late Lonzo and Pearl Waters. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jean Clampitt. He graduated from Canton High School in Canton, NC and from Blanton Business College in Asheville, NC. Jack was employed by Johnson Motor Lines in Charlotte, NC for 28 years and came up through the ranks from Rate Clerk to Vice President of Transportation. He completed his career as Terminal Manager for Estes Express in Charlotte after 16 years. Jack was a member of Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity, Inc. Jack and Mary Sue Sherrill attended high school together, fell in love and were later married on May 14, 1950 in Canton. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War where he was an Airplane & Engine Mechanic at Keesler AFB, Miss., and a Technical Instructor at Sheppard AFB in Texas. He loved flying airplanes and owned one for many years. Jack was a wonderful husband, father and friend to so many. Everyone that met him loved him. In addition to his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary Sue Waters, Jack is survived by four children; Jimmy Waters and wife, Kathy of Concord, Ronnie Waters and wife, Karen of Kannapolis, Jackie Waters of Concord, and Sheryle Brown and husband, James of Winterville, NC. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Jack is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Griggs of Jacksonville, FL.
