Alice R. (Hathaway) Gardiner, 96, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018. Widow of Bernard Rogers and Amos Gardiner. She had been a resident of West Kingston, living with her niece, Karen A. Stevens for many years. She was a daughter of the late Steven and Elsie (Brown) Hathaway. Alice had been a supervisor in the Housing Department at URI for 20 years until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, embroidering and reading. Alice loved her cat, Fred. Alice is also survived by three sisters, Hope Richards of West Kingston, Phyllis Hull of East Providence, Betty MacDonough of Bellingham, WA and the late Arlene Thayer and Wilfred Hathaway. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the RI Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Exeter on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 12:15 pm with a committal service at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005 Boston, MA 02241 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, will be appreciated.
