Tom Spears, 58, of Washington, died on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Born June 24, 1960, in Seoul, South Korea, he was the son of John Hobart and Helen Louise Wahl Spears. Thomas was a truck driver and avid photographer. He was a 1979 graduate of Southern High School in Stronghurst, IL. He was a member of Biggsville Presbyterian Church. He loved photography, and hanging out with his family at the farm and on the pond. He really enjoyed reading, and was known for giving books and suggestions for other people to read and enjoy. Survivors include ex-wife, Carol Spears, one son, Alex (Kelley) Spears, one daughter, one brother, Tim Spears, Janie Spears, three sisters, Susan (Bob) Scheer, Janet (Mark) Brewer of Tucson, AZ, Joanne (Kevin) Swanson of Atlanta, GA, one foster brother, Derek Brewer, and five grandkids, Talon, Noah, Dante, Fiona, and Elijah, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory. There will be a graveside service at Walnut Grove Cemetery on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
