Craig Eugene Sash, 71, of Newton died on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Skiff Medical Center. A celebration of Craig’s life will be held from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, September 9, at the Elks Lodge in Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Pinky Swear Foundation to help kids with cancer and their families with financial and emotional support may be left at the celebration or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Craig, the son of Marvin and Mary (Hulsizer) Sash, was born on April 23, 1947 in Marshalltown. He grew up in Melbourne and graduated from West Marshall High School. Craig served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves. In the 1970’s Craig moved to Newton where he worked and later retired from the Maytag Company. Craig was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 111, and UAW Local 997. Craig loved golfing, fishing, hunting, and camping. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan. Craig is survived by his three children, Amy Sash of Des Moines, Matthew Sash of Newton, and Eric Sash of Newton; grandchildren, Isaac Sash, Aidan Sash, and Saphia Sash; his siblings, Denny (Laura) Sash of Cole Camp, Missouri, Mike (Barney) Sash of Oskaloosa, and Peggy (Marshall) Mennenga of Reinbeck; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
