OBITUARY William “Bill” Edward Baker September 3, 1927 – July 26, 2018 William (Bill) E. Baker, 90, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018 at home. Visitation will be 5-7pm, Monday, July 30, 2018 at Newcomer Noland Road Chapel. Funeral service will be 11am, Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Bill was born in Kansas City, MO on September 3, 1927 to Clyde and Edna Mengel Baker. He graduated from Midland Radio & Television. He attended college at KC Jr. College, and the Blue River Community College. He married Ava Nell Hampton on November 20, 1953 and moved to Independence, MO. He and wife, Ava built their own home in 1954-1957. He was employed at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring after 34 years as an Engineering Manager. He was an Amateur Radio Operator, K0BB, and held commercial radio telephone and radio telegraph licenses. He was an avid computer hobbyist. He loved to travel with his wife, Ava and they enjoyed numerous trips to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico and Canada. His favorite places were Hawaii, Switzerland and Germany. He loved gardening and often supplied family and friends with his produce. Another hobby he enjoyed was constructing antique clock cases. After retiring, he did volunteer work at the Medical Center of Independence for 15 years, in addition to volunteering at the Independence, MO police department for over 14 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ava; brother Robert O. Baker and his parents. Survivors include three children, Connie Jo Frazier, Independence, MO; Sharon Seeright (OJ); Haines City, FL; Dawn McGrew (Bob), Kansas City, MO; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren.
