Vaughn Connely 1925 2018

Obituary for Vaughn Connely Vaughn Connely, 93, died peacefully at his residence in Vermillion, SD, July 7, 2018. The son of Vance and Sara Gilmore Connely, Vaughn was born in Ayr, NE June 24, 1925. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Jo Mullen Connely, and his infant great-grandson Kaleb Richard Job. Vaughn is survived by daughters Kellee (Steve) Reinhart of Tuscaloosa, AL, Jayne (Rick) Taylor of Vermillion, SD; and Lynn (Dave) Marvel of Juneau, AK, seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, whose accomplishments and adventures gave him constant delight. Among his large extended family are brothers-in-law Pierce (Marge) Mullen of Bozeman, MT, Dennis (Marlene) Mullen of Hastings, and Tom (Cathy) Mullen of Riverside, CA, whose lifelong friendship and thoughtful attention were treasured. After service in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW2, Vaughn embarked on a long and successful career in the aeronautics industry. He was a member of the launch team on several of America’s most historic aerospace missions and held significant positions at Kennedy Space Center, the Michoud Assembly Facility, the Stennis Space Flight Center and other hubs of NASA research and space flight activity. Vaughn and Mary Jo returned to Hastings upon his retirement and spent many years traveling the globe, making countless friends near and far. He spent his final years enjoying family and friends in Vermillion, SD. A private family memorial service will be held in Hastings in early August 2018.
