Georgetown: Ruth Jones Ketner Hope made her passage to heaven, surrounded by those who loved her, on July 29th at Bishop Gadsden in Charleston, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Stuart C. Hope in 2012. Ruth was born on October 3, 1926 to Charles and Pearl Jones in Faith, North Carolina where they ran a small general store. Although, over the years, Ruth volunteered and served on several boards and was active in her church, she should be remembered… Read More » for her spirit of fun, her love of all God’s creatures – two and four legged, her humor, feistiness and pizazz. Elegant, smart, kind and stunningly beautiful her entire life, she was one-of-a- kind. She never met a stranger, hated to miss out on anything interesting or fun and stirred up some mischief if things got too dull. Ruth loved her husband, Stuart, dearly and they had 32 blessed years together in South Carolina, where they were married in their church home, All Saints Episcopal. They shared a love of boating, fishing, clamming, crabbing, travel, but mostly of one another. They had two late-in-life “children,” their Yorkie-Shoo’s, Christie and Ruthie. Ruth is survived by her children, Linda Ketner (Beth Huntley) of Charleston, SC and Robert (Leslie) Ketner of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Rob (Rebecca), Andrew (fiancée Jessica Jensen,) Margaux and Madeline Ketner; step-children Marion (Judy) Hope, Stuart (Heidi-Darr) Hope, Mena (David) Gardiner; brother, Wayne (Claudette) Jones and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Ruby (Raymond) Boggs. Ruth’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her house manager and best friend of 32 years, Francenia Cox Williams, and to her caretaking staff who were so kind, professional and loving. Services will be held Sunday, August 5th, 1:30 p.m. at All Saints Church, 3560 King’s River Road, Pawley’s Island, SC 29585. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert L. Grafe. A reception will follow at DeBordieu Club, 908 Bonnyneck Drive, Georgetown, SC 29440, (debordieuclub.com/map). Please sign a guestbook at: www.mayerfuneralhome.com.
