Ruby Overman Perry, 79, passed away at home Sunday, July 22, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Ruby was born on September 7, 1938, in Wilson, NC., to Rebecca Lee and William Ed Overman, who both predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her second father, Roger R. Baker. Ruby was married to Ronald Wayne Perry for 55 years, until his death in 2014. She is survived by a son: Ronald Lee Perry of New Bern, NC; daughter, Lisa Anne Perry Bobbitt and husband, Tim of Wendell; grandchildren: Christi Harrison and husband, John, Anna Bobbitt and Tyler Barbour, Amanda Bobbitt and Greg Kreamer, Mark Perry and Gabrielle Schwanke and husband, Cody; sister, Judy Kitchen and husband, Bill; brothers-in-law: Thurston and wife, Lu, Doug Perry and wife, Suzanne; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ruby graduated from Wakelon High School and Watts Hospital School of Nursing in Durham. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her home, her family and friends and her work as a registered nurse in the Wake County Hospital System for 36 years, where she retired in 1998. She was a faithful member of Zebulon Baptist Church from 1952 until her death. She served as a deacon of the church, as secretary of her Sunday School Class, the Frances Tucker Willing Workers, and helped with the Benevolence Committee for many years, cooking and serving meals to bereaved families. Ruby was a loyal member of the Zebulon Lions Auxiliary for more than 40 years, holding various committee positions. The family would like to send special thanks to the wonderful nursing staff at Transitions Hospice Care of Raleigh. They were kind and compassionate in their care of Ruby and her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zebulon Baptist Church Faith Journey, P.O. Box 366, Zebulon, NC 27597 or Transitions Hospice Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. The funeral service will be held at Zebulon Baptist Church, 400 N Arendell Ave, Zebulon, 27597 at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, July 25. Burial will follow at Zebulon Town Cemetery. Visitation will be in the church parlor prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:30 pm.
