Obituary for Robert J. Carey Robert “Bobby” Carey- Albany-North Albany’s Civil War Historian and poet died on Good Friday, March 30, 2018. Son of William Joseph Carey and Rosemary Travison Carey, predeceased by his parents, brother Michael P. Carey and Brother-in-law William Chamberlain. He is survived by his adoring widow, Diane Jasniewski Carey, his sisters Kathleen Henkel (Hank), MaryAnn Ryan (Kevin) and Nancy Chamberlain, sister in law Patricia Carey,brother in law John Jasniewski (Bonnie) daughter Jennifer Carey Chapman (Matthew), son James Carey (Ashley), step daughter Courtney Jasniewski of Jacksonville, NC, granddaughters Haelie and Norah, Mother-in-law Mildred Dugan, wonderful nieces and nephews and a host of great friends. Bob was a graduate of Sacred Heart of Jesus school in North Albany, Christian Brothers Academy and Albany Business College. He was working for the Albany County Department of Audit & Control, had retired from Wolferts Roost County Club and previously worked for the Albany County Youth Bureau. He loved the New York Yankees, the New York Football Giants, Notre Dame University, Michigan University, Civil War History and golf. He was in line to become a docent at the Gettysburg Battlefield. Bob was a founding member of the North Albany Sons of the American Legion Squadron, 3 times Past Exalted Ruler of Albany Elks Lodge #49, still a record holder in Track & Field at CBA, a Member of Gettysburg 1st Corps Aide-De-Camp and former Marshal of the North Albany Limericks. Bob and the family thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Peter’s hospital and especially his oncology team at the Hospice Inn. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 33 Walter Street, North Albany at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 4, 2018 and calling hours are on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made online to Gettysburgfoundation.org, or Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands,NY 12204.
