Obituary for Robert Edward Matheny Robert Edward Matheny (Ret. M/Sgt USAF) entered eternal rest on Friday, June 30th, 2018 at the Victory House for Veterans in Walterboro, SC. He was 88 years old. Robert served in the USAF for 26 years which included two tours in Vietnam. After his retirement, in 1976, at the Charleston Air Base, he attended Trident Technical College then transferred to The College of Charleston and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He then worked for the College as the VA administrator until he retired for good at 64 years old. Few people know that “Bob” Matheny at the age of 42 made the College of Charleston golf team in 1979 and played as their #3 man. His young teammates respected his game and gave him the nickname “old man”. Dad loved the game of Golf and played all over the world. He also won the Charleston Air Base Senior Invitational five times. He is survived by his only son Richard L. Matheny of Summerville, SC and four grandchildren Kelsey Sue Stroop of Sarasota, FL, Taylor James Matheny of Hilton Head, SC, Carson Robert Matheny and Ellie Kate Matheny of Summerville, SC. and his two nieces Karon Robinson and Sharon Matheny of Murfreesboro, TN. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary Ruth Matheny, his brother, John Matheny (Ret. LT Colonel USAF) and his niece, Michele “Mickey” Matheny.
