Obituary for Richard Alan Curless Richard Alan “Dick” Curless, 67 of North Pekin, passed away at 1:38 PM, Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at OSF St Francis Medical Center, Peoria. He was born on December 2, 1950 to Malcom Augustus and Vera Irene (Reiker) Curless in Peoria. He married Kathleen Susan Bell Leavitt on November 13, 1976 in Peoria. She survives. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Edward Curless and Frank McGuirk, and one sister, JoAnn Whetstone. He is survived by his wife Kathe; two sons, Raymond Christopher (Stacy) Leavitt of East Peoria, and Steven Michael (Bergan) Curless of Peoria; two daughters, Melissa Dyan (Floyd) Kinworthy of Pekin, and Heather Lynne (Jason) Fuehring of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Tom (Marsha) Curless of Peoria; thirteen grandchildren and many extended family and great friends. Dick served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and volunteered to be sent to Vietnam as a Supply Specialist, taking needed equipment out to the fire bases on the front lines. He worked as a machinist at Caterpillar for 39 years, retiring in 2013. He was a member of United Auto Workers # 974. After retirement, he drove a school bus for enjoyment for Peoria District 150 and looked forward every day to his interactions with each of the students that rode his bus #29. He loved fishing. He was a member of the Illini Lunker Hunters Bass Club and the Peoria Park Anglers Bass 25 Club. He fished in many local fishing tournaments over the last 35 years. He also enjoyed bowling, including both men’s leagues such as the CAT league and Mixed Couples leagues with his wife, Kathe. But his most treasured time was that spent with his family and grandchildren. Dick’s funeral will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday May 30, 2018 at First Missionary Church, 124 Lincoln Blvd, North Pekin with Pastor Tony Darr as officiant. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 29, at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr., Pekin. Burial will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery, Pekin with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
