Obituary for Peery Elswick Peery Vass Elswick, age 87, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018 at his residence. Born, April 30, 1931 in Bluefield, WV; he was the son of the late Peery Brittain Elswick and Ethel (Bailey) Elswick. Peery was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. He graduated from Ohio University earning a B.A. in Art Education and a M.A. in Guidance and Counseling. He spent 30 years employed by the Fort Frye Board of Education as an art teacher and later as a guidance counselor for the district in Beverly OH. He also coached men’s cross country and assisted with other sports, as well as, announcing home sporting events, including football and track and field. He also photo-documented school events for annual school yearbooks and the Marietta Times in Ohio. After retiring he continued to work in art education, as the Curator Education for Parkersburg (WV) Art Center, and taught part time art and art history courses at Ohio Valley University and West Virginia University Parkersburg. Peery was an avid lover of the outdoors and spent many enjoyable hours fishing, canoeing and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rita M. (Modesitt) Elswick, daughter, Erika R. Elswick (Joseph Radovsky) of Bloomington, son, Lawrence B. Elswick (Carmen) of Chardon, OH; and grandchildren, Brittain, Nicholas both of Columbus, OH’ and Madeleine of Chardon, OH.
