EDGERTON—Norma E. Carlson, age 86, of Edgerton, died Saturday, July 28, 2018, at home with her family at her side. She was born in McMillan Township, Marathon County on Sept. 11, 1931, the daughter of Frank and Elsie (Tews) Weber. Norma worked her way through high school and college, and she graduated from Stevens Point State Normal School and received her Bachelor’s degree from UW Whitewater. She married James Carlson in the early 1950s at St. John Lutheran Church, Edgerton. Although she and Jim eventually divorced, they remained close friends. Norma was a voracious reader. She also enjoyed rosemaling, genealogy, volunteer work, restoring furniture and her house, as well as collecting depression glass, dolls, and antiques. Norma was an active member in the community; she was treasurer of the AFS club, part of the Janesville Area Retired Educators Association, a member of the Wisconsin State Rosemaling Association, a member of the REO Club of America, and a volunteer Sunday School teacher at St. John Lutheran Church. Most of all, she will be remembered by all who knew her for her kind heart, witty humor, wisdom, strength and unwavering love for her family. Norma lives on through her 3 children: Penny (Todd) Harris of Janesville, Patti (Peter Johnson) Carlson and Jami (Eric Pizer) Melton both of Edgerton; 6 grandchildren: Cory Harris, Todd (Christine) Harris, Brittni Carlson, Megan Johnson, Jarett Melton, and Kirsten Johnson; 3 great grandchildren: Kelsi, Brady, and Logan; 6 siblings: Arlene Schweiso, Vincent Weber, Joyce (Melvin) Gotz, Dora (Wilbur) Schmelzer, Diane (Don) Borgen, and Arlen Weber; as well as her former husband, James Carlson; son-in-law, Kyle Melton; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and 5 siblings: Jarlene Snortheim, Alan, Melvin, Orville and Martin Weber. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, at ST. JOHN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 207 E. High St., Edgerton. Rev. Donald Fehlauer will officiate and burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Center Township. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the APFEL EHLERT FUNERAL HOME, 315 Lord St. (Hwy 51) Edgerton and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at St. John Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to the family which they will be using to form a scholarship for students choosing to pursue a career in education.
