Obituary for Melvin Danford Melvin Claude Danford, 77 of Firestone passed away June 30, 2018. Mel was born April 10, 1941 in Colorado Springs, CO to Ernest and Helen (Swan) Danford. When he was three, the family moved to north Denver where he was raised and attended school. In 1959, Mel graduated from North High School and he began his lifelong career working for King Soopers until retiring in 2003. In 1963, Mel was drafted into the U.S. Army and served until 1965. During his duty, he met his wife, Carol McGinty and they were married in 1966 in Seattle, WA. Throughout his life, Mel remained a Colorado Native, living in Thornton and later in Firestone, where he and his wife retired. Mel enjoyed fishing, all animals (especially cats), anything mechanical, gardening, yard work, decorating the house for the holidays, painting, woodworking, being outdoors and walking. His special talents were writing and being able to fix and install almost anything. He also very much enjoyed cooking and eating anything sweet (cakes, pies, cookies, pastries, candy, etc.) Mel liked helping people and was especially fond of Ford trucks. He was a big man in stature and felt very comfortable in the roomy Ford trucks that he owned through the years. Mel was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Ed Danford. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol Danford, their two children; James (Jennifer) Danford of Lafayette, CO and Cathy (Matt) Kinney of Frederick, CO, his sister, Helen Sanks of Lakewood, CO, and three grandchildren; Allison Danford, Kian Kinney and Dylan Kinney. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 6 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 805 3rd Ave. Longmont, CO 80501. Inurnment to follow at Ryssby Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
