Obituary for Margaret Ruth (Brown) Kennedy Margaret Ruth (Brown) Kennedy, 94, of Central City, died at her home on Monday, May 28, 2018. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 1st, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Central City with Rev. Tom Lucas officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 31st from 5-7 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City. Interment will be held at the Central City Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Central City as well as to the Merrick County Child Development Center. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com. Margaret Ruth was born on September 21, 1923 in Grand Island to Ronald Reid and Pearl Ruth (Ellis) Brown. Margaret grew up in Alda, and graduated from Alda High School in 1941. Following her graduation she then attended Kearney State College. While attending college, she met William Truman Kennedy. They married on May 26, 1946 in Alda at the Methodist Church. Truman and Margaret then moved to Conway, Arkansas while he finished his college degree. In 1949, Truman got his first teaching job in Central City. They would remain in Central City until 1960 when he got a job teaching in Cody, Wyoming and remained there until 1966. They moved to Gillette, Wyoming until 1969 and then came back to Nebraska, where they would live in Gresham until 1972. They made their final move in 1972, returning to Central City. While living in Central City, Margaret would work for Dr. Barry Turner as his aide, as well as working as a secretary for the United Methodist Church. In the early 1990’s Margaret and Truman bought the Crawford Motel, where they owned and operated it together until his death in 1996. She then sold the motel and retired in 1997. Margaret was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, as well as a member of the United Methodist Women and PEO Chapter AB. She was an avid sports fan, especially the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers, as well as the Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Royals. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, and volunteering within the community. Her greatest loves were for her faith, and her family. She spent her whole life as a devoted Christian and mother. Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Carmen Rickett of North Platte, William (Wanda) Kennedy of Central City, Ronald (Marci) Kennedy of Central City, and Brent (Sue) Kennedy of Central City; 9 grandchildren and 18 plus one on the way, great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Truman Kennedy; daughter-in-law, Paula Kennedy; and granddaughter, Jana Kennedy Fye.
