Obituary for L. Marshall Beard L. Marshall Beard, longtime Muskogee fireman and retired Muskogee Fire Chief died Wednesday, July 4, 2018 in Muskogee. He was 77. Born September 17, 1940 in Norman, OK he was the son of Lyman Bliss and Phyllis Denton (Marshall) Beard. He grew up in Muskogee and attended school here. He was a fireman in Muskogee for more than 24 years, serving as Fire Chief from 1979 until his retirement in 1987. He also served as Interim City Manager in Muskogee for a short time. Following his retirement from the fire dept. he worked for Whitlock Packaging Corp. serving as company president for ten years. He is survived by a daughter, Phyllis McCune of Tulsa and a son Lyman Marshall “Sam” Beard of Muskogee; two grandchildren, William Marshall “Beau” McCune and Cherie Lynn “Erin” McCune and three great grandchildren, William Sawyer McCune, Marshall Harris McCune and Holden Beau McCune. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Tuesday July 10, 2018 at the Muskogee First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall with Rev. Rex Wilkinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhill Cemetery under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee. A reception for visiting will be held after the Interment at the Parlor of the First Baptist Church. Pallbearers will Bryan Fuller, Gordon Lee, Mike O’Dell, Max Clairday, Kevin Warlick and Ben Terrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Beau McCune, Jerry Whitlock, Larry Milliken, Bill McGuire, Cheparney Barnette, Bunky Tatum, Meredith Lacey, Joe Hull and all the brave firemen who served under or with Chief Beard.
