Obituary for John “Big John” Mielnik Sr. John J. Mielnik “Big John”, age 64, of Cresson passed away at home on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Born on August 16, 1953, John was the son of Richard Mielnik and Joanne Mielnik (Simpson). Big John was an Army veteran, achieving the rank of SSG before he was honorably discharged from active duty. In May of 2006 he married his wife of 12 years Sandy Mielnik. He worked as a maintenance tech at Buck Company and was a recent retiree as of June of this year. In his time off he enjoyed Hunting, golfing and being a member of the Smith Corner Church. He was also a member of CMBChurch in Paradise (Lancaster County) Pa. There he was an AWANA leader for 11 years. He is survived by his wife Sandy; two daughters, Michelle Lynn Mielnik of Iceland and Stephanie Bonsuk of Ohio; four sons, John Jr. of North Virginia, Ivan of Lilly, PA, Gary Mielnik of Duncansville, PA and Josh Heinauer of Ephrata, PA; a sister, Christine Snare of Hollidaysburg; six brothers George, William and Mark all of Altoona, Richard and Gregory of Hollidaysburg and (Pete) Donald all of Willow St, PA; He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in Death by Steve Mielnik. Friends will be received for a time of visitation at The Good Funeral Home Inc. 108 Alto Reste Park, on Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 10am-12pm, followed by a funeral service at 12. Pastor David McClanahan will be conducting the service. A burial will take place at Alto Reste Park with full military honors. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions in Big John’s name be donated to the Fisher House Foundation, 12300 Twinbrook Parkway #410, Rockville, MD 20852 Services have been entrusted to The Good Funeral Home Inc.
