Obituary for Jim Grant James R. “Jim” Grant, 68, of Rockwell, died Monday (July 2, 2018) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home in Rockwell. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday (July 5, 2018) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 E. Elm St., Rockwell, with the Rev. John Gossman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Following the service cremation will take place and a private inurnment will be held at a future date in the Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth. Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Jim’s name in care of his family. James Ross Grant was born on July 31, 1949 in Mason City, the son of Elmer and Ada (Newell) Grant. He attended Mason City High School and graduated among the class of 1968. Following high school Jim completed the automotive program at NIACC. For many years Jim worked at several area dealerships as an auto body mechanic, most notably at Sedars. In 1993 he opened Jim’s Auto Body, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the Rockwell Chamber of Commerce, the Mason City Classic Car Club, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell. Jim loved cars, and in his free time could be found fixing up his classic car, attending car shows, driving his classic car in area parades, watching NASCAR, making model cars and trains, and fishing. Those grateful in sharing in his life are his children, Jamie (Beth) Grant, Greene, Jenny (Gary) Akins, Rockwell, and Jerrod (Jenny) Grant, Rockwell; grandchildren, Anthony James, Samantha Grant, JR Grant, Taylyn Akins, Nate Akins, Jack Grant, Sophia Grant, and Lilianna Grant; sisters, Sharon (Dick) Whitney, Mason City, and Kalli (Keith) Hintz, Delta, OH; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; as well as extended family members and many friends.
