Obituary for Jani Barbati Jani Barbati, 81, passed peacefully in her sleep on July 27, 2018. Jani was born in 1936 in Arkansas, to RQ and Ruby Simmons. She and her late husband, Lt. Col. Patrick A. Barbati, USAF Ret., retired to Pawleys Island in 1984 where they became Charter Members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Survivors include, her sons, Robert P. Barbati (Joyce) of Mt. Pleasant and Michael P Barbati of Hickory, NC; daughter Traci A. Hessler of Pawleys Island; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers RQ Simmons (Sharyn) of Pinehurst, NC and B.J. Simmons of Pawleys Island; and dear friend Bob Keller of Pawleys Island. Jani directed countless young people in theater, was an accomplished poet and playwright, community theatre actress, and strong leader of her family. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 in Murrells Inlet. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Pawleys Island Presbyterian.
