Obituary of James Middleton James Robert “Bob” Middleton, 87, of Pittsville, died on Friday, July 20, 2018, at Chesapeake Cove Assisted Living in Crisfield. Born on September 18, 1930 in Pittsville, he was the son of the late Benjamin Houston and Maude Rogers Middleton. He was a 1949 graduate of Pittsville High School. His first job was with R.D. Grier Company in the hardware division and he later worked at DuPont in Seaford, DE. He was the Owner and Operator of Pittsville Hardware and subsequently worked for Dresser-Wayne Industries in the Export Department until retirement. While at Dresser-Wayne he received a meritorious award for development of a time and cost savings gas pump manufacturing process proposal which was adopted at Dresser-Wayne plants. Bob was a member of the National Guard 29th Division, 115th Infantry, Company I. He was an active member of Ayres United Methodist Church for over 75 years where he served as an Usher and a Greeter. He was a lifetime member of the Pittsville Fire Company and was recognized for 70 years of active service most recently in the Rescue Squad and Friday night Bingo. He was also an active volunteer with the American Red Cross. Bob was a positive and cheerful person who never met a stranger. He enjoyed activities with his family, Fire Department and going to auctions. He specialized in acquiring hardware and items which required “salvage and rework”, a passion he loved to share with others. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane Middleton; a daughter, Flora Jane Glasgow and her husband Rick of Salisbury; two grandsons, Forrest Parker Glasgow and his fiancée Lauren Moreno and Wyatt Robert Glasgow; sister in law, Nancy Middleton; cousins, William T. Middleton and Ellen M. Scott and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Thomas Middleton. He was also preceded in death by three special friends, Lester and Mary Lou Richardson and Bill Hastings. The family would like to express sincere gratitude and thanks to his care providers including: Chesapeake Cove staff, Tammy Harrison RN, Dr. Michael Atkins, Tonya Poisker CRNP and staff, Dr. Pavlos and staff of Peninsula Cardiology, and Mary Hickey and Terrie Abrams, sitters. Thanks and appreciation to Rev. Howard Travers, Jackie Richardson and Ayres United Methodist Church, George Whited, Roland Adkins and Pittsville Fire Company, and Rev. Bill Sterling from Asbury United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service. Rev. Howard Travers will officiate. Interment will be private.
