James Rosby Brown, Jr. of Greensboro, NC went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 27, 2018. Funeral will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 30, 2018 at Concord Friends Meeting. A military graveside service will be 3:30 PM Monday at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC. He was born in on April 19, 1926 in Alabama and adopted by James and Carrie Brown. He spent most of his childhood in Erie, PA with his parents and brother Micque until his time serving as a gunner in the US Navy Air Corps stationed in the Philippines in WWII. He spent most of his working years in the steel mills in Erie and Pittsburgh. He loved Jesus, golf, music, and his family, not necessarily in that order. In his retirement years he and his wife Betty tutored first grade readers every week at Supply Elementary for 20 years. He was very involved in his church, helping to found a food pantry at Brunswick Islands Baptist Church that now feeds many families each month, and participating in activities at his local VFW. In more recent years he has been a happy active participant in programs at Well Spring Solutions and his final church home Concord Friends Meeting. James is survived by his children, Carrie Gibbs, of Cape Coral, FL, James Brown, III of Greenville, SC, and Elizabeth (Mickey) Humble of the home. Grandchildren, Michele (Jeffrey) Zajackowski, Brian (Erika) Sharer, Tabitha (Jeff) Shipman, Teri Hall, Christopher Brown, Jessica Brown, Chloe Humble and Cora Humble, ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Sunday evening at George Brothers Funeral Service. “Well done thou good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23 In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Well-Spring Solutions 4100 Well-Spring Dr. Greensboro, NC 27410 or to Concord Friends Meeting 5000 Old Randleman Road Greensboro, NC 27406.
