James “Jim” Richard McKinney Sr, age 86 of Carthage, MO passed way Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the Freeman Hospital Joplin, Mo. He was born on August 5, 1931 in Carthage, MO the son of Victor and Fay McKinney. Jim was a 1951 graduate of Carthage High School. He was a veteran with the United States Army serving his country during the Korean War. He married Rachael Cunningham on August 20, 1955 in Carthage, Mo. He was employed with Atlas Chemical Company for 42 years until his retirement.… Read More » He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Joplin, the Carthage Masonic Lodge, and the Carthage American Legion. He served on the Carthage City Council for 12 years, enjoyed RV trips visiting national parks with his wife, hunting, fishing, the outdoors, animals, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Linda McKinney, a great grandson, Kolbin, a brother, Dick McKinney, and a sister, Marty Scheurich. Survivors include his wife, Rachael of the home, two sons, Jim McKinney Jr. (Sara), Edmond, Ok and Joe McKinney, Miami, Ok; five grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the Park Cemetery Carthage, Mo. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until departing for the cemetery at the Knell Mortuary. The family suggests contributions to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the Knell Mortuary.
