James “Jim” Michael Herfi, 70, of Baker City, Oregon passed away on June 28, 2018, at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Baker City on June 28, 2018. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel. Note from Windy: James or Jim, as most knew him, lived in Baker City apart from his remaining family members who reside in California. Even though he wasn’t close to his family, from the stories I have heard around town, he was a kind and generous man (however, a bit of a character) and many people seemed to love him. Sometimes family isn’t always blood-related and it seems this may have been the case for Jim. After speaking with Alberta Darlington from the Rachael Pregnancy Center I learned he regularly donated large amounts of food to the food bank and she thought he may have done the same for other food banks in the area. The folks at AJ’s Corner Brick have loads of stories to tell, he was a regular there and always telling what seemed like tall tales (but who knows if they were or not). I can confirm he was a veteran and he served in the Navy but I do not know much else about him other than the standard information we collect when someone enters our care. Financially his remaining family member is unable to pay for his disposition so I have started a Funeral Care Fund if anyone would like to donate to cover the cost of his cremation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to just leave a comment on his tribute wall with a good memory of Jim that would be appreciated too! favorite_border Appeal For Donations
