Hugh Wesley Foster November 9 1930 July 12 2018 (age 87)

Hugh Wesley Foster was born November 9, 1930 in Greensboro, NC. He was the son of John W. and Mildred Catherine Kimbro Foster, also of Greensboro. He left school when he was 16 to do carpentry work and then worked for Biltmore Dairy in Greensboro from March of 1950 until March of 1952. It was on March 4, 1952 that he eloped to York South Carolina and married Lois Jane Barham. They were married 38 years until her death. Hugh was blessed to meet and marry Evelyn Lackey in 1991 and they were rewarded with over 27 years of marriage. On April 1, 1952 Hugh was drafted into the Marine Corps during the time of the Korean War. He was discharged after two years of service. He returned and went to work for Guilford Dairy as a route supervisor and in the early 70’s he began to manage Smartin’up Wallcovering and Paint on Battleground Avenue where he received numerous awards for top store sales manager year after year. He officially retired in 1996 but continued to work there for many years after. Hugh loved sales because he loved people. In the 60’s and 70’s Hugh served on the Greensboro Police Reserve. Throughout his life he always enjoyed golf but only began playing the game in his early 60’s. His real passion was reading and especially Scripture, always reading the Bible through at least once a year. Hugh always had page after page of people he prayed for daily. He greatly loved participation in his Tuesday Lunch Gang. He enjoyed the company and fellowship as many were old friends from his Glenwood Neighborhood of childhood. One of the blessings of his life was when many years ago a missionary who was leading the Sunday worship service at Brighton Gardens Senior Living returned to the mission field. He asked Hugh to fill in for him and he did, preaching there and leading in Sunday worship for the next 12 consecutive years. He did quite a few funerals for those of his “flock” during this time. He was faithful in hospital, skilled nursing and hospice visitation. Hugh was a very gifted soloist greatly influenced by George Beverly Shea. His finest gifts in ministry was to always pray for and encourage people. Hugh was a faithful and loyal member of Muir’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He loved his church family and was loved by them. He served on the Administrative Board and attended annual conference. He greatly enjoyed bible Studies, Sunday School, singing in the choir and upholding his many pastors in prayer over the years. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Evelyn, daughter Serena Simmons, (Tom); Randy Foster, (Cathy); and grandchildren, Jessica Foster, Kelsey Foster and Owen Simmons. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday July 22, 2018 at Muir’s Chapel United Methodist Church 314 Muir’s Chapel Road, Greensboro NC 27410. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service time in the sanctuary of the church. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Triad Cremation & Funeral Service of Greensboro NC.
