Glen Winter May 1 1924 June 28 2018 (age 94)

Glen Winter passed peacefully from this world on June 28, 2018 in Overland Park, Kansas. Glen was born May 1, 1924 in Hoisington, Kansas, the fifth of seven children raised by Walter and Mae Winter. Glen held a life-long love and deep respect for his parents and siblings. He attended Hoisington High School where he flourished in music programs and sports. Glen was a starter for the undefeated 1941 Hoisington Cardinals football team which was proclaimed the mythical state champion by the Wichita Eagle-Beacon. Their nine games were won by a combined score of 354 to 6. Following high school Glen attended Wichita State University on a music scholarship. After his first year in college he enlisted in the Army Air Corp where he received training as a fighter pilot, ultimately flying the famous P-51 Mustang fighter, a great plane in his opinion and one he loved flying. During his time in the service, Glen married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Butler. Mom and Dad had an active, wonderful marriage of 61 years before Ruth passed in 2006. Glen re-entered college at the end of WWII, this time at Kansas State University where he earned his degree in business administration. Upon graduation he went to work for the nationwide department store chain Montgomery Ward and held a number of increasingly responsible positions in his 34 year career with the company, relocating 10 times and declining other transfers to provide continuity and stability for his family. After leaving Wards he spent a number highly enjoyable years with the men’s clothing retailer, Kuppenheimer. He also maintained an 18 year role as a volunteer for the Overland Park Golf Club, which was a natural extension of his life-long love of the game. Glen was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth. He is survived by his brothers Calvin Winter and Dr. Walter Winter, children; Don Winter (Diane), Brian Winter (Carol), Stacey Hughes and Lisa Hudnall (Rick). Grandchildren Erin Winter, Kerry George (Andrew), and Keith Hughes. Great grandchildren Lawson and Bailey George.
