Obituary for Edwin John Teder Edwin John Teder (Ed) age 91, husband, father, grandfather, brother, father and friend passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 in Cary, North Carolina. He was born on December 12, 1926 in Dubois County, Indiana to the late William Teder and Rose Prechtel Teder. Ed spent more than forty years of his career working for IBM in Indiana, Illinois and North Carolina. Ed was raised on a farm in rural Dubois County. On the night of his graduation from Dubois High School, he was served papers to join the US Army Infantry and proudly served our country in WWII. He received the Sharpshooter Award for excellent marksmanship. He served as a radio technician overseas. Following his service in WWII, Ed attended Valparaiso Technical Institute and received training in radio engineering and electronics. Shortly after, Ed began his career at IBM. Upon moving to North Carolina, Ed and his family were some of the early members of St. Michael Catholic Church. Ed served as a lector, usher, and chair of the parish council. Ed volunteered at the Polk Youth Detention Center for 14 years where he enjoyed teaching the “Adventures in Attitudes” class as he worked with incarcerated youth to help them see better futures. He was also an active parishioner at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Apex, NC where he served as a lector and participated in Centering Prayer and Bible study groups. He attended daily Mass and enjoyed going to breakfast at McDonalds with “the guys.” He is survived by his beloved wife, Julie, of 60 years; daughter Sr. Ann Marie Teder, SND, of Chardon, OH; son Mark Teder and his wife Katherine of Cary; daughter Karen Teder Meyer and her husband Mark in Columbia MD; and daughter Laura Teder Grelck and her husband Ken of Morrisville. Four grandchildren, Josh Teder, Nicholas Teder, Sam Grelck, and Katie Grelck also survive him. Four of his siblings, Lawrence Teder, Linus Teder, Lucille Teder Luegers, and Marie Teder Kuper precede him in death. His brother, Vic Teder and his sister, Dorothy Teder Weidenbenner, survive him. Throughout his life Ed was devoted to his faith and made sure to pass that along to his family. He enjoyed attending daily mass. He loved a cold beer, a good Reuben, tending to his gardenias, fishing at the NC beaches, and telling a good joke. He especially loved ice cream and enjoyed getting “double dips,” almost every day. All who knew him will miss his positive attitude, even on tough days, and his sense of humor. The family would like to thank special friends who provided support and understanding to Ed and Julie as Ed progressed through the years fighting his battle with dementia. Your kindness touched our family and will not be forgotten. A visitation will be held on July 10 at 10:00am, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3008 Old Raleigh Rd., Apex, NC.
