Edward P. Kocon, 81 of Crown Point, formerly of East Chicago, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Park Place, St. John, IN. He was the beloved husband of the late Mildred M. (Sotak) Kocon who passed away May 22, 2015; loving father of Edward, Robert, Richard, Sharon and son-law John; cherished Godfather of Mona Plesha and John Kocon; proud uncle of many nieces and nephews. Edward was the eighth of nine children born to the late Marian and Agatha Kocoj. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Jay Nuthulapati, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm; Wake Service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 4:30pm. Edward Kocon was born on March 3, 1937 in East Chicago, Indiana. He was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region and had attended East Chicago Roosevelt High School. He was a retiree of the American Maize (Amaizo) Products Co. (Cargill), Hammond, with a service of 42 years. Through his work he developed many longtime friendships from Roby. Proud of his Polish heritage, he loved the statue of Thaddeus Kosciuszko in Kosciuszko Park, East Chicago, he enjoyed listening to and playing polka music on his self taught concertina and piano accordion, was a member of the Cicero Concertina Circle, Chicago as well as the Sokol Club. He loved baseball and cheered for the Chicago Cubs as well as the Chicago White Sox. Devoted to his family, Edward will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
